John Cardiel. He is a legendary Bay Area professional skateboarder, Thrashers skater of the year in 1992 and inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame in 2015.
John Cardiel is one of the most intense skateboarders to ever live. Known for his reckless abandon and seemingly limitless velocity, Cardiel was one of the most beloved — and often most bashed-up — faces of the Anti-Hero Skateboards team in the 1990s. In his prime, he was known for fearlessly attacking any surface a skateboard could roll, slide or sail over, be it concrete, metal or otherwise.
John Cardiel aka DJ Juan Love has a unique connection with reggae music. In the early 2000's, he was involved in a car accident and told he may never walk again. He began DJing and immersing himself in the genre’s deep catalog and rich history. The music became an essential vehicle during his road to recovery. John was the subject of a Vice documentary following the accident in Australia that left him temporarily paralyzed. Despite being told he'd never walk again he defied all odds and overcame this through fixed gear bike riding which gained him even more of a cult following.
Thrasher’s Skater of the Year and Skateboarding Hall of Famer turned respected reggae selector.
